umax 1220p drivers

After making an attempt to download drivers for my Umax 1220p scanner, I discovered that at umax.com, you are now charged a ridiculous sum of money to PURCHASE updated drivers for any of their scanners.

For reference: Bypass umax.com and skip right on over to their German site for your downloads. You’ll have to fumble a little bit with the non-English interface, but hey, at least it’s not $32.

blog

I blog. I do it to try and write down important things I would like to remember. I do it to attempt to pass on bits and pieces of life that might somehow be useful or interesting or entertaining to someone else. I do it because it’s fun. I do it because I like sharing parts of myself with the world.

I also read blogs. I read blogs by people I know and by people I don’t know. I like opinions. I like stories. I find people to be at their most interesting when they are writing themselves down. You see things that way that you don’t in real life.

But to get to my point:

I read something recently on someone’s blog that I found particularly applicable to my own life, at least for a handful of semi-recent, semi-ongoing events.

I’ll paraphrase:

When you get hit from behind with disaster, it’s easier to go running back to it than it is to fight back. You don’t win by letting it stomp all over you. You look it in the eye and say “Bring it on. I will take you down.”

where i’ve been

Well I guess it’s been a while since I’ve written anything substantial (Novermber 28th??), so hopefully this will make up for things.

Where I’ve been recently:

Well, uh, school, mostly. Things got crazy right about mid-November or closer to the end of it, since the end of the semester was quickly approaching and the teachers started to realize we weren’t quite done with everything yet. So it’s been a mad-sculpture-creating-rush for the past few weeks, and I can’t say I’m entirely pleased with all of what I’ve made, but I got it done and I’m for the most part pleased with it. I am just not a sculpture person.

Also I applied for/interviewed for/started a new job, which has proven interesting at least so far. There’s no one perfect way to explain what I do there, other than “try to make things work right,” so yeah. New job. Yay.

Got hooked on a new game, Eve Online, which is one of the neatest things I’ve ever played. Pirates and mining and spaceships and planets and warp drive and asteroids and jump gates and fighting and lasers and it is wonderful. Time consuming, but wonderful just the same.

Now I’m on break, which is terrific. Well, not really yet as I still have one exam coming up, but nothing pressing aside from that.

What I plan to do over break

- Clean room
-Clean out car
-Sleep!
-Go to work
-Play Eve
-Possibly change the website around a bit
-Make some art
-CHRISTMAS
-Sleep!!

And that’s all I’ve got for now.

new layout

The Fish Tree has been up for about five months now, so I decided it was time to change things up a bit.

So I went from a layout featuring The Fish Tree….to a drawing of a fish.

CLEARLY I SENSE SOME TYPE OF THEME HERE.
