lunchy

I had pizza for lunch again. :B

Now I’m sitting on a couch in the arts center writing this because I still have a half hour before my next class.

The hurricane came to visit, which was nice last night because I like the sound of rain, but was somewhat unpleasant this morning. Things weren’t bad going from the house to the car, or even driving to school, or getting from the car to the bus. Things were unpleasant going from the bus stop to the CFA because I pretty much got soaked from the knees down. (I had an umbrella.)

Class this morning wasn’t bad. First thing we got divided into groups to make up interview questions for each other and conduct a “talk show” in front of the entire class, which I pretty much thought was going to be stupid but it really wasn’t as bad as I anticipated. It was kind of interesting, I talked to some people (!) and got to say I think Bush is a moron who makes the entire United States look retarded to the rest of the world in front of a group of people, so I was pleased. Then we had a little break and I talked to some kid who took Japanese because I’d like to take Japanese (apparently it’s very interesting but very intense), and another girl who’s actually been to Japan so things were interesting. The girl seemed nice but I didn’t catch her name. I think she’s in my next class so maybe I will get to talk to her again. After that we watched some really abstract film about some guy’s concept of how art fits into society. It’s really hard to explain in words. It was interesting, in a creepy, unnerving, abstract-y kind of way.

I hope I have everything I need for the next class, I wasn’t totally clear on what we were supposed to have for today. I still haven’t gotten a hardbound sketchbook like I’m supposed to have, but I just brought my normal one so if we’re doing anything I can just work in that and glue it into my “good” one when I actually get it. And I tossed in my little box of pencils and stuff so I should be good on that end of things. Hopefully I won’t need anything else.

It looks like the rain has stopped, so hopefully it will stay stopped until I get to leave so I don’t get soaked again on the way back to the bus stop. :B

duhhh

I just ordered my 6 zillion books for ART150 from amazon.

Yaaaaaay. :B

I am not in the mood to get up tomorrow. Don’t get me wrong, I am very much enjoying this UB thing so far, I just wish it didn’t start so early in the morning.

day 2

So today was my second day at UB. Things were mostly as good as the first, I guess. First up was biology, for which the class was HUGE. There were quite literally 400 other people in the same room with me. At first I thought it was probably going to be bad, because you always hear people talking about how great small classes are, but quite honestly I think I’d rather be in a huge class like that. In my (limited) experience I’ve found that as much as it is useful having the ability to stop and ask questions, more often than not things get off track and I don’t end up getting much of anything out of it anyway. Or teachers tend to try and coax answers out of students who are unable or unwilling to answer, which just slows things down further while both of them fumble for words. I really have no problem at all taking notes from a lecture/slides and filling in the gaps on my own later without being harassed for answers or ending up talking about something completely different and getting nothing from a class. Not that there weren’t opportunities for discussion in class, anyway. I think things will be just fine.

After that I had two hours to kill before my next class, so I went and had some lunch (pizza and breadsticks) and watched the general goings-on in the Student Union. After that I walked around a little, found a spot to sit, and played Nintendogs for a bit. Fiddled around online until the laptop batteries started to run down, and then walked over to Knox to try and find the room for ART150. I found it quickly and still had about twenty minutes, so I sat around for ten and then went in to find a seat.

There were about 75 people in the room for this class, but I have a feeling there will be more coming in the next few classes. Judging by the syllabus and the teacher, this class looks not necessarily challenging, but more something to keep on top of. There are five or six books I need to order from Amazon for this class, which appear to consist of varying levels of boring. Hopefully not, but I don’t think they’ll be extremely interesting. There are a bunch of papers to write, which worried me at first, but after further examination of the syllabus there’s a line about not saying “I think this sucks” in a paper, which kind of makes me believe that perhaps the expectations aren’t as high as I initially thought. The only other really strict issue presented there was the attendance policy, which ought to be something I can manage.

Traffic was a little bit thicker today, but not unbearable. Mostly on the way home, but that was only because it was around 5. I don’t imagine it will get much worse.

I don’t think I’ll have to leave as early tomorrow, since I’m starting to get a feeling for when I need to leave in order to be there on time, but I probably will anyway.

first day report, part 2

I got my free planner. :B I guess that makes me an official dork now or something.

So let’s see what happened after that… Well. I still had a bunch of time left before ART105 so I walked around for a while and ended up walking down to the lake to sit and look at ducks and geese. It was quiet and pretty down there. I took some pictures with the camera that goes everywhere, but haven’t taken them off the camera yet.

After I waited long enough I walked up to the arts center and went to my class. The teacher for this class seems nice, and the class itself seems to be mostly about design, which is something I sort of like anyway. It sounds an awful lot like the 2D design class I took first semester at GCC, but there doesn’t seem to be anything I can do about it. At least I’ll have done it once already so I already have a decent idea of what’s going on. And I did get an A in the GCC class, so that’s a plus. The people in the class were basically the same people as my first class.

Things kind of droned on and on and I didn’t get done early like I’d hoped, but there’s not too much I could have done about that, short of walking out, which probably would have been a bad thing.

After walking around a while I managed to find my way back to Flint Loop and the bus showed up again almost instantaneously. It was a while before it got back to the CFT Lot, but that was ok because I was tired and sick of walking/standing, so sitting in a semi-comfy seat and not doing anything for a little was a nice break. The lot was only about half-full when I got there, which kind of surprised me. I thought more people would take advantage of something like that, but I guess I’m the only one lazy enough.

On the way home I stopped at Target and reserved Pokemon XD and got a sticker/skin thing for the Gamecube, which looks kinda nifty. Then I headed home again, and here I am now.

And I get to do it all again tomorrow. Except less early.

blogday

I just found something terrifically interesting, BlogDay.

I think perhaps I shall be participating in this most amusing of internet holidays.

first day report, part 1

So here I am in the Student Union, having just finished a tasty chicken quesadilla, and trying to kill time before my next class at 12:30. I have to say, although they are noisy, the people here are far more interesting to watch than the people at GCC were. That is, when they are acting like kindergarteners, it is amusing instead of irritating.

The traffic wasn’t bad like I thought it would be this morning on Millersport, it was actually pretty calm. The CFT lot was exactly where I left it yesterday, the bus showed up shortly after I did, and I was at Founders’ Plaza a short time later. I’m glad I parked in the CFT Lot instead of trying to find a spot closer and walk, because all the lots I saw closer to the arts center were full or quite close to full. This park and ride thing should work out just fine, I think. It was a brief hike to the arts center, which I am thinking will probably be fairly unpleasant come winter, so I’m not too sure what I’m going to do about that yet. I was plenty early for my class, so I sat in the arts center lobby for a while and checked my mail and stuff. Wireless is working oustandingly well here, which is a plus.

First class went ok. I thought it was just going to be a general figure drawing type class, but instead it is apparently some kind of general study of the human form, with projects ranging from life drawing like I thought, to sculpture and performing arts assignments as well. I’m not so sure how I feel about the performing arts bit, but I guess I will deal with it when it comes up, which is apparently not for a while. At least I hope it’s not. We had to do the usual go-around-and-say-your-name thing, which I pretty much find annoying, but oh well. There were a bunch of other transfer students, which I hadn’t expected. Pretty much everyone else seemed as antisocial as I like to be sometimes, so I think we will get along just fine. :P The teacher seemed nice, if a bit fruity, which is ok by me, I guess.

I got done with that class at about 10, so I wandered around for a while and eventually ended up back in the Student Union, so I looked at all the food choices and whatnots and ended up getting a chicken quesadilla, though they also had other things which looked good. This is a step up from cheese sticks, although I’m almost certain they have those as well! :O

Nothing else is really going on at the moment, so I guess I will end things here. I think they are giving out free planners or something, so I may go investigate that and see if I can nab one. :B Yay.

…to be continued…

i feel cajunkly

I has school tomorrow. I wants not to go.

ART110 from 9:00-11:30 am, and then ART105 from 12:30-3:00 pm.

I am hoping that ART105 won’t go the full time since it is the first day. :B

I made this page so anyone who is interested can know what I am learning about at most any time.

disorientation

So Orientation was yesterday, and was much better than I had expected it to be. There were no silly games involved, in fact, there were no games at all! Which made me really happy.

I got a stack of information which ought to come in handy, since I actually know what is going on now and where to find most things, which is a lot more than I came out of the GCC Orientation with.

We had to watch some public safety video thing with really bad acting, where they tried to tell little “stories” to demonstrate what you should and shouldn’t do to prevent yourself from getting killed murdered robbed taken advantage of by criminals. That was highly entertaining in and of itself, but I really wish they would have closed the plot about the girl getting her wallet stolen. I was waiting the whole time to see what happened with that, but no! Some other girl had to come get drunk and die and make everyone else forget about the stolen wallet! Needless to say, I was annoyed.

Also what might have been the second most hilarious thing I saw was a sign beside this little indoor running track thing that states that you may only run clockwise around it on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, and counter-clockwise on the other days. And you can only spit in designated spitting areas.

Then my group went on a tour of what they call “the spine” which seems to be all of the buildings that connect together, so you can go from one end to the other without going outside. Except we did the tour from outside, which annoyed me, because the overpasses and tunnels and stuff don’t go directly straight, they’re kind of all over the place. So when we hit the end, I ditched and took myself on an indoor tour. I kind of failed at getting back to the beginning without going outside, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out later. There are enough signs around and stuff.

So now school starts Monday, which should be interesting. Monday I have ART105 from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, and ART110 from 9:00am to 11:30 pm. Which requires getting up early. Arg.

Let’s hope I don’t get lost! :D
